UPDATED. Horrible If True/Not Exactly.

UPDATE: Okay, it turns out NOT to be true that Gannett was so cheap it wouldn't allow people to call 911. Turns out that the staff members didn't know to get an outside line first... yikes. While Poynter is agonizing over the ethics of linking to a blog without checking the information first, I'm more interested in what others can do in an emergency.

a man was dying in the newsroom
, shame on Gannett. But here's a tip I learned early on--in a medical emergency, dispatch someone to the elevator and hold it for the paramedics. And send others to direct the crew from the parking lot. It could save lives.
