Spelling Champs

No surprise--copy editors win a spelling bee. Congrats!

Best Spellers: Chronicle team wins its third bee title with ‘epistemology'
By John Kelleher - Managing Editor

DeKALB - In the course of his daily copy-editing routine at the Chronicle, David Fixmer rarely if ever sees the word “epistemology.”

It is the branch of philosophy that studies the origin, nature, methods and limits of human knowledge.

But it was good he knew how to spell it.

Thursday night, Fixmer, captain of the Daily Chronicle's spelling team, led the trio to victory in the seventh annual DeKalb County Community Spelling Bee.
