Along with the issue of brackets in quotes, where the bracketed material stands in for the actual words, which drives me crazy, we seem to be having trouble quoting people correctly. From the NY Times today on Al Gore:
And he repeated that he “has no plans” to run for president.
I seriously doubt Gore said, "I has no plans". I'm guessing he said, "I have no plans" but the reporter couldn't work it into the sentence properly. So he fudged and gave us an incorrect quote.
