Nature magazine tears into The New York Times over this op-ed. Letter writers weren't quiet, either.
Journalism schools are ramping up environmental reporting, and, in general, science coverage, I hope. What is your school doing?

Not So Liberal
Media Matters has been counting the numbers of liberal and conservative columnists run by American newspapers and concluded that the latter outnumber the former.
The results show that in paper after paper, state after state, and region after region, conservative syndicated columnists get more space than their progressive counterparts. As Editor & Publisher paraphrased one syndicate executive noting, "U.S. dailies run more conservative than liberal columns, but some are willing to consider liberal voices."1
Though papers may be "willing to consider" progressive syndicated columnists, this unprecedented study reveals the true extent of the dominance of conservatives.

Rosen Gets Busy

Jay Rosen takes up the fight again against Michael Skube, the journalism professor who wrote an op-ed for the LA Times that complained about the lack of reporting on blogs.
And mentioned Josh Marshall, after which the professor said an editor had inserted that reference but that he--the professor--had never read Marshall's blog.
Rosen's busy compiling examples of excellent blog-based reporting as a rebuttal to the original piece.
UPDATE 8/23 A National Journal blogger weighs in with praise for Rosen.
